"Get Out" Shot By Shot Analysis

Video:

Shot 1

Beginning of shot 1 you can see the camera zooms out. You can hear the crickets and the character talking but he isn't in the frame yet. The setting is a suburban community and it's dark outside.

He's going into a medium shot, you can hear the conversation he is having with his girlfriend. He's checking his surroundings as he's talking. The only light is the street lights this can be felt as suspense beginning to rise. He is wearing a blue shirt, leather jacket, and jeans which is an average outfit for a man when he's going to a friends house for the first time.

The camera tracks the character while he turns the corner. The camera angle turns into a medium close up. His facial expression is regular as he tries to find the house he's looking for.

You can hear and see the car approaching as he turns the corner. His back is also facing the camera and his back has no lighting at all.

The camera does a 180 rotation so now we can see the car making a u turn and the expression of his face. He starts to look confused and worried as the car keeps following him throughout this part. He greets them with the movement of his head this is where the music in the radio starts playing.

After he greets them they don't say anything so it creates discomfort in the audiences and the character. The character is probably thinking in his head worrying something might happen.

He says "not today, not me" meaning he thinks that the person that's in the car may do something lethal to him he then turns around and walks the other direction. As he walks the music gets louder giving the audience the intention that something bad is going to happen.

He turns around to look and the door is open this could cause anxiety and suspense because we didn't expect tat to happen. We then see the person who allegedly was the one driving sneak up behind the previous character.

You can hear the music starting to turn into background music also known as non diegetic sounds but with the music you can hear the roughness of the abductor while he's kidnapping him trying to break free. The other character has on all black which signifies that he is an unrevealed villain or bad guy. While he's dragging the main character to the car you can hear the drag of the feet vividly with the music.

Shot 2

The transition was a cut on action because while he was dragging him the camera angle changed. The new angle is an extreme long shot which shows the nature of the shot. In this you can see him stuffing him in the back of the trunk, gets in, and drives off like nothing happened. This being said this could cause viewers to be in shock in what they saw because it all happened so fast and unexpected.
